A mom of a special needs child reaches out...tells their chiropractic story

I received a phone call from a mother concerned about her 7 year old son today.  She scheduled an appointment for this afternoon, and stated that she was referred to me by another local specialist.  She went on to explain that her son had an unresolving, deep ear infection, and that this child has had seriously health issues since he was in the womb.  One of those issues included his "Sensory Processing Disorder," which involved a spectrum of complications that often affected the whole family.

I hung up the phone and thought, "This reminds me of someone who is coming in today."  About an hour later, without getting into details besides her first name, I explained to a patient of mine that another woman is coming in with her son today for the first time.  I stated that this little boy shares some of the diagnoses that her little boy was labeled with.  This is the letter she wrote for the woman scheduled later that day (I changed the names, and left out the actual phone number, for privacy's sake):

Hi Lorraine,

My name is Wendy.  I have an almost 10 year old son Jonathan.  He is a patient of Dr. Sheena's.  Jonathan had oxygen deprivation while in utero which caused bilateral brain damage, mild cerebral palsy, sensory processing disorders, along with a multitude of other diagnoses.

I am a patient of Dr. Sheena's also and I had discussed Jonathan with her many times before I brought him in for her to assess.  After discussing her findings with me I decided to bring Jonathan in for treatment.

Dr. Sheena was very honest with me about expectations for Jonathan.  I greatly appreciated that as I have had others give us false hope.  She stated that she did not know if her treatment would help Jonathan's thought processes (developmental delay) or not but that she did know that the curvatures in his spine would later cause discomfort and pain and that she could definitely help with that!

After only 6 visits we noticed that Jonathan was completing his homework faster and his attention span and memory improved.  Physically Jonathan grew 1/2'' in just over a month, and gained 5 pounds (we're lucky if he gained 5 pounds a year normally!)

As a special needs mom I have tried many things with Jonathan.  Some have worked and some have not.  But, if I hadn't tried everything I would not have felt I was caring for my son the best I could.  Knowing what I know now seeing Dr. Sheena is a good choice for Jonathan's ongoing therapy.  Anything, regardless of cost that helps him is worth the time and the money.

I wish you and your child the best!

Sincerely,
Wendy Doe
