But, it didn't, and soon I noticed it wasn't just showing up when I lifted my arm. It was then there when I was sitting, or driving, or sleeping. I could not relax without feeling discomfort with something. At times, my arm would also feel numb.

I work as a construction electrician. I do a lot of physical straining of my back with what I do. Having a good, strong spine is very critical to me. Having this kind of pain and dysfunction was not going to work out well with my job, not to mention going back packing, or doing other outdoor activities I enjoy.

After 4 visits with Dr. Sheena I noticed the numbness was gone, and after the 6th weekly visit the pain in my neck and shoulder was gone. Her method of treatment is so right on for how to mend one's spine. Her health recommendations were so helpful, too. I was worried I might not be able to ride my motorcycle anymore, but I can go on long trips with no discomfort at all, and I am doing better than I have been in a long time.
I am 58 years old and I've been dealing with severe neck issues and headaches for the last ten years. I've consulted with and received treatment from three prior chiropractors; two of them were manually adjusting my neck in, I guess, more 'traditional' ways. One diagnosed me with fibromyalgia. After then seeing two neurologists, my prognosis was surgery and living the rest of my life on pain killers and other drugs."

"Before seeing Dr. Sheena I was living with chronic neck pain and nerve damage into my neck and shoulder. I felt sick, anxious, depressed, sleep-deprived and overall, just plain awful. I had lost any hope of ever feeling well again. After seeing Dr. Sheena for only six visits I have become more active, relaxed, and over all, I feel much better. The constant pain and pressure I was feeling is now a rarity. I am currently still in her care and progressing. I recommend Dr. Sheena to anyone who is suffering with neck and spine issues. Dr. Sheena has surprised and amazed me, and has helped me on so many levels. She has helped me more than any other doctor I've seen so far (and I have seen many). Dr. Sheena is an intuitive practitioner, and uses her gift and talent to help you heal. No x-rays, CAT scans, or other expensive tests were needed in my case with Dr. Sheena. She's truly amazing, and is the answer to my prayers." Perhaps hers is a story to get you thinking....

January 30, 2018

Last summer, I was diagnosed with carpal tunnel syndrome severe enough that doctors said surgery was eminent. I did research and learned that carpal tunnel syndrome was nerve impingement caused by collapse of the carpal bones. I was puzzled that surgery only removed tissue to reopen the tunnel, and did nothing about the cause, which are the misaligned bones.

I needed a chiropractor who could adjust my carpal bones and eliminate my need for surgery. I saw a flyer for Dr. Sheena and called. Immediately, I was attracted to her personable nature and confidence, and made an appointment. I filled out her intake form before our visit and, though I was only focused on my hands, the completed form showed a picture of my health that I was unaware of. I was a mess from head to toe, literally, with areas of pain that I had grown accustomed to ignore.

Dr. Sheena explained how the central nervous system works and that spinal misalignment notably causes pain and discomfort, but also can be the culprit of other physiological effects that one would not tie to misalignment. She explained that she prefers to use the gentle approach to chiropractic care and how it works. I had not had her particular technique performed on me before, but was willing to try it; after all, not having pre manipulation anxiety or hearing my bones crack sounded quite refreshing. We started working together to get me pain relief, and living a healthier lifestyle with improved diet and exercise. Many shun chiropractic care for various reasons, but Dr. Sheena is indeed a DOCTOR! She asks me about my health, life, stresses, and habits, and takes notes. She is a proponent of listening to your body, and makes diet and exercise suggestions based on a realistic lifestyle.

I saw Dr. Sheena for 6 visits before she performed a reevaluation. I felt normal and could not understand the big deal she was making until she showed me the intake form I had completed several visits before. My eyes almost popped out of my head! I could not believe the state I was in when I came to her! I felt so normal and could hardly remember the painful mess scribed on the paper. Dr. Sheena said that she was sure that we can achieve even greater results, and I went 4 more visits. I feel good from head to toe. I have some soft tissue damage from the collapse of my carpal bones, but my hands and wrists have improved so much that surgery is no longer eminent. I was able to decorate and cook for the holidays PAIN FREE! That meant a lot to me, and I am so thankful for Dr. Sheena and her work, care, and advice.

Unfortunately, I am not out of the woods. Due to my years of inattentiveness, my body structure has worn bones and poor muscle memory that is going to take time to correct. Dr. Sheena and I are now on a maintenance plan so that I can continue to build on the benefits of her early work.

I encourage all who are considering chiropractic care to make an appointment with Dr. Sheena. She is a caring chiropractic doctor who delivers results, both gently and affordably.

DON'T GIVE UP! Chiropractic could save your life."My name is J.C., I live in Grass Valley, am 25 years old and a father of two. I work for myself, outdoors, exposed to the elements and doing a lot of landscaping tasks. This is very rewarding, but also a choice I make. I enjoy the hard work and the ability to do it for myself. I've always operated with the perspective that if I cannot do it for myself then it doesn't need to be done. I enjoy the challenge, problem solving, helping others, and doing the very best I can with my action. Yet, this commitment only has so much to offer. It catches up to you, and when it does, it can hurt; so, I chose to accept some help. Many hands can make light work, I had to remember."

"I felt like 'E.T. phone home' before seeking Dr. Sheena's care. Most of my body was numb and hard and in tremendous pain--literally years' worth of built up injuries from pushing my body to its limits. I actually had a leak in my spine and was draining spoonfuls of spinal fluid out of my eyes everyday, had brutal migraines everyday for months, layers upon layers of built up stress & tension locked into my neck & shoulders--basically my body was shutting down and giving up. Having not much left of itself to compensate with, I could hardly hold my new baby girl or be the provider for my family they rely on me to be. I was basically unrecognizable to myself and was faced with the painful recognition that I either find a way to get healthy, or lose everything. Thankfully, Dr. Sheena was there to help."

"I dove into an intensive adjustment plan according to Dr. Sheena's recommendations, with two adjustments per week, with body work in between adjustments. Thanks to Dr. Sheena's comprehensive ability, her very compassionate, understanding, and gentle approach, after the first adjustment, I could see better and the pressure inside my head diminished markedly. After the third adjustment, my bowel & bladder function returned to normal, no more fluid was leaking out of my face, and I was sleeping again. After the seventh adjustment, she was able to break through the neck and shoulder tension and seemed to correct the spinal fluid flow so that it wasn't backing up anymore because my migraines were completely alleviated. Dr. Sheena's results elevated me from a place of debilitation to one of strength and wellness. I am able to get a hard days work in as well as show up a worthy family man each day. I recognize myself again and am proud to have found a place of openness and allow the help."

"I was suprised by Dr. Sheena's sensitivity, passion and precision that she carries though her work. She is in-depth, reliable and trustworthy and really does have the abilities to make life changing results happen in ways that are noticeable and helpful."

"Dr. Sheena--thank you so much for all that you do. Your craftwomanship is inspiring :) "Dr. Sheenahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00464636082357826448noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-514143703234151244.post-83824667520269026612016-06-19T17:05:00.001-07:002016-06-19T17:11:02.371-07:00"The best feeling of relief I ever felt"My husband and I have been living in the area for over 25 years. We both have had chiropractic care in the past--the kind of manipulation that had me bracing for the next movement knowing it was coming and might hurt. We live on 5 acres of forest and there is lots of physical work to be done. Oddly enough it was a sneeze several years ago that sent me looking for chiropractic relief early in 2016. All this time I hoped the persistent headaches and tightness in my neck would be better. Instead, the pain got worse and I had a hard time sleeping. I was not looking forward to a body manipulation type of treatment, but I needed help. I used massage therapy and it helped somewhat, but it never resolved the problem.

I had positive results right away with Dr. Sheena Boyd's technique. On my way home from my first treatment I experienced a release or "opening up" sensation starting in my neck and moving up and around the back of my head, like something opened or released. The sensation did not scare me, it was the best feeling of relief I've ever felt. My headaches are gone, no more tightness in my neck and I am sleeping good again! In addition her expertise has also improved my posture.

Dr. Sheena's treatment was a relaxing and effective experience. I never tense up expecting my body to be twisted or contorted to be adjusted. I look forward to my appointments and how I feel afterward.
Will I be forced in to surgery?….These were questions that haunted a 55-year old man before he finally called me, thanks to a friend's recommendation.

"I have lived in Colfax, CA since I was about 5 years old. I started working at age 16, and I have been working non-stop ever since. I am proud of that. I am currently employed with Coca-Cola and have been for going on 28 years. I have been truck-driving for 30 years and never had an accident!"

"On a day in March 2016 that changed, though. On Interstate 80 near Vallejo, CA, a car ran into me while I was driving my semi-truck. The impact was a hard hit. I was injured, but I continued working. As days went by, I was in pain and going into depression. I was having bad neck pains and headaches. I felt anxiety and cloudy-headed. I worried because I know what happens with spine surgeries, and I didn't want to have to stop working. I only have 7 more years, and then I can retire!"

"My friends and family were so worried about me. A lady friend said, 'you need to go see my chiropractor, Dr. Sheena.' This friend had good help from her, so I said I think I have to try it."

"I am happy to say that after some time and care and adjustments from Dr. Sheena, I am happier and hardly have pain. I have more energy and endurance than I have had since I can remember. I am outside doing yard work and playing baseball with my dog all day now, and I wasn't like that even before the accident. I have so much relief, and I am not worried anymore. Now I know that if something goes bad, Dr. Sheena can fix me! I am excited, too, that I don't need to have a doctor crack my bones. Dr. Sheena doesn't have to do that to make her adjustments. I tell everyone about her. My family now comes too, because they have seen what she has done for me!"

"THANKS A MILLION, DR. SHEENA!"
What I should say is that my body's natural ability to be healthy won. He would even agree with that amendment. He's a good guy, on top of a skilled chiropractor--but he really was just a "means to an end," just as I am.

People often ask "Dr. Sheena, why do you do what you do?" Sometimes I just tell people why I do what I do because it's exciting to me. It is an honest testament to what is possible with natural health care. I like to let people know so they have hope, but I also love to remind myself that I still have a lot of people to reach.

So, here is a simplified version of my story.

I was about 23 years old. I was in my final semester of undergraduate study at the University of Pittsburgh. I was paying for my college life with a few grants, a couple non-conventional part time jobs, and a huge amount of student loans. I did my best to stay away, and detached, from my family, at that point. I had been very hard on my body as a teenager and young adult, emotionally, physically, and chemically. Other people had been hard on my body, emotionally, physically, and chemically, my entire life. Sometimes I knew I was damaging myself, sometimes I didn't. Sometimes other's knew they were hurting me, sometimes they didn't. Sometimes I knew others were injuring me, sometimes I didn't. Regardless of the big and small damages done to my wellbeing over time, I hit a breaking point in my early 20's that changed my life, and its course, entirely.

It started with some back and neck pain. When it got to a point where the discomfort was too uncomfortable, I did what I had always done, and what had been the only thing my family had ever done--I went to my Medical doctor. I told her that I was having neck and back pain. She prescribed me some pain relievers and muscle relaxers. I had the prescription filled and used the drugs that my family medical physician offered as a solution for said health complaint, just as I had every other time I had a health complaint for which she exclusively suggested medications. I felt better after a few days, and went about life as usual.

A couple weeks later, the back and neck pain returned. This time, though, it felt more severe. The ache was deeper and I had a really hard time moving or doing anything I needed to do. I headed back to my MD, and told her what I was experiencing. She said she could offer more of the same prescriptions. When I asked what was wrong with me, she said I probably had pulled muscles, and the only thing she could do is give me pain relievers and muscle relaxers. When I asked if the pulled muscles would get better, she said probably. So, off I went, refilled the pills, and took the pills, and I got better….mostly anyway. I still didn't feel like my "pulled muscles" healed this time. I still had sharp "catches" when I moved certain ways, but I could function better. So, I went back to doing as I had been doing, just feeling not-so-symptom free.

Then, one day, I woke up and tried to move in my bed. It was a class day. I had a bus to catch, to catch another bus, so I could walk all over campus to sit in class and write research papers all day. But, the thing is, I couldn't move. Rather, when I just tried to move any part of my body or head to get out of bed, sharp shooting pain went down my neck and spine, down my arms, and down my legs. The pain was so severe that I would have to not move to not feel it. I was terrified.

I called out for my boyfriend at the time, who was in the bathroom, that I couldn't move, and that I had excruciating pain. I don't think he really believed me at first, but the tears and the screaming soon let him know it was no joke. I said, "I have to get to class. This can't happen." I suggested he help me up and out of bed, and maybe I could feel better and move around like that. When he tried, and I tried again, all I could do was scream, and I just had to lie there in bed some more.

Neither of us could figure out what to do. I said I'd have to get to the the doctor's office if I were to get more pills. I said I can't make it, and even if I did, what could she do for me? We talked about calling an ambulance, and going to the hospital. Then, out of the far corner of my mind, "chiropractor" came up. I have no idea how, or why, really, because no one in my family ever went to one or talked about it as a reasonable option for anything. The only time anyone talked about it was my mother, who at one time in passing, talked about one of her aunts who "went to the chiropractor for everything." She told me that if someone had the hiccups, or a cold, her aunt would say "go to the chiropractor!" That certainly wasn't why, as I lay in bed unable to move without devastating pain, I considered a chiropractor. I had never even met this distant great-aunt who had passed away years before I was born. I can only guess that I heard somewhere at sometime in my life that people go to chiropractors when they have back pain. I really don't know, but I asked out loud, "could a chiropractor maybe help me?" Maybe, he said. So I lay there, and decided that I would wait, rest, and keep trying to sit up, so I could use a phone book and a phone, eventually.

Eventually, I could do just that. Really…just that. I leafed through the Yellow Pages and called the first Chiropractor I found that seemed close-ish. He was in the next town over, maybe a 10 minute drive away. I was panicked and crying a little when I made the call. The receptionist answered and I barfed my situation in her ear and she calmly reassured me that she was sure the chiropractor at her office could help. We didn't bother to set appointments; we just agreed that I would try to get there that day, as soon as I could.

The phone call itself didn't change anything besides give me hope. Since I couldn't get up and walk, my boyfriend was relegated to picking me up, carrying me down the stairs of our apartment building, and into the car. He drove me to the office, carried me out of the car, into the elevator, and down the hall into the chiropractor's office. Even that was painful, but I couldn't have made it without him, and I am glad he was strong enough, and willing, to do that. I'm still grateful for that gesture, even though we have long since parted ways.

I think there was paper work when we got there, and there were x-rays…but most of that is a blur. I remember the chiropractor saying "just give me a little time, and we'll see what we can do." So I sat in the waiting room, in pain, but with unfounded faith that this guy just may help me. He didn't take long, really. He came out and showed me my x-rays. I didn't know much back then about spines, but he showed me a part of my spine that was leaning way far off from the rest of it, and said that was my main problem, and that he could help. HE COULD HELP.

Amazingly, he said he could do something that same day to help my problem. That, I know now, is not always the case with patients. I was so thrilled to have someone say "THIS is what's wrong" and "THIS is what we are going to do to fix it," I couldn't wait to have my misalignments adjusted. And that he did. As I tell all my patients: I was carried into his office, and I walked out. As if that were not amazing enough, when I followed his recommendations and followed his protocol (regular adjustment visits with particular exercises at home), I could feel my spine healing. As if that were not incredible enough, over the weeks and months that I continued my care, I noticed that my asthma and allergies got better. My sinuses cleared up, and I was sleeping better. I had more energy, my menstrual periods normalized, I had an elevated mood, and I was losing weight. All I did was show up for 10 minutes at the chiropractor's for a quick evaluation and adjustments, and go home and do simple work-outs, and all this could happen?

I, on an innocent whim, asked Dr. Brent one day "Hey, you know, I feel like my asthma isn't as bad as it used to be, and I just can think more clearly than before, is it possible that the chiropractic can be connected to that?" "Of course!" he said, "when your spine is lined up and moving right, everything works better."

And that, my friends, is it. I had to do this. I had to give this to others, because heaven knows Medicine did nothing for ANY of those issues that I had, besides the drugs, that gave no lasting results. In most cases, the results I did get from drugs were with their own haze, or side effects. I had spent my childhood as "the sick kid," always with strep throat, at home taking antibiotics, who can't run or play outside because of her asthma. Then I was the teen with depression and abnormally heavy and odd-timed periods, who needed more meds. I had shots, pills, syrups, and inhalers…but finally, a solution came my way after decades, where the side effect was simply a spine aligned allowing for better brain-body communication. Back to school I went. I got my prerequisites, enrolled in grad school on the other side of the country, and there was no turning back. I couldn't "unfeel" this amazing change in my life. By the time I was in chiropractic school, mind you, I was lean, fit, running and biking all over the Bay Area. The only pharmaceutical I ever used was an albuterol inhaler rarely (in fact, it lasted me 5 years, that's how little I used it).

So, here I am, giving it back to a world who is over medicated and underserved. I don't think that my spinal misalignments were the root cause to all my ailments as a baby, child, or young adult (I have less than optimal genetics, a dysfunctional childhood upbringing, Medically-implemented pharmaceutical injuries, and a prior history of eating poorly, to largely thank, too), but I do know that when I am diligent with my chiropractic care, I feel vibrant, able to meet life's challenges, and excited to do more, and be more. It's become so much more than pain regulation. It's about being at my best. For my patients, too, I always try to help them be at their best. Some of them just want to "not hurt". Some want to be fine-tuned machines. Either way, I do what I do because Chiropractic saves lives. It certainly saved mine. I don't think I'd be here today writing anything like this if I would not have been "blessed" with the debilitating pain I had over 10 years ago, and had some sense to drag myself into the unknown to try something different.

Insanity, they say, is doing the same thing over and over again, expecting a different result. I hope people will one by one keep saying "No!" to the insanity, realize that life can be SO MUCH MORE, and then give a chiropractor a call. It doesn't have to be me, but wise up and do something crazy this time!
Have you considered the health of your spine, or Chiropractic? My name is Mr. J.B., I am a business owner in the Colfax/Weimar area. I am also a yogi and physically active in many ways, enjoying all sorts of hobbies and intensive sports. I consider myself a "Renaissance man."

With all the living I do and have done, physical traumas have definitely occurred. I've been in several accidents, including dirt bike, skateboard, and one really terrible car accident when I was a teenager. I was thrown from a car and still carry the scars.

Early this year I began receiving care at Kind & Gentle Chiropractic. For the two years prior, my health status was sporadic, and for a year I was having seizures at first every 3 months, then monthly. I tried many other things before coming to Dr. Sheena (including acupuncture and herbs), but nothing was giving any lasting help with my problems.

Dr. Sheena ended up finding a grossly out of place C3 vertebra that was pinching my spinal cord. She's worked on that, and other areas of my spine requiring fine tuning. I haven't had a seizure in 8 months.

I come every other week to her office now for wellness care. When I leave, I feel more open and free in my body, and I can literally feel better alignment in my neck than maybe ever before. I've also noticed that I don't feel the same stress and anxiety in my everyday life that I once did.

I'm excited to be back to my old self.
Then she tried Chiropractic.I've had sinus issues for some time now. I went to a number of doctors that wouldn't address the issues. I was going crazy over the congestion in my ears and face, but they just kept saying to take the drugs. That didn't work and they didn't have any other answers for me, even after the scans and tests. I had trouble sleeping, sinus issues, headaches, and tingling in my hands and legs.

Dr. Sheena listened to me and truly cared. She is so helpful and encouraging. She is not just a chiropractor, but a wellness coach. After she took me in as a patient, I still have some bad days, but my headaches and sinus issues are a lot better. I am able to sleep better and I have less tingling!
My most memorable impact was at age 26. I fell hard off my horse, landing on my neck and upper back, with my legs following. The force reversed the curve in my neck, and compressed 2 vertebrae 25% in my mid to lower back. Ouch!

Over the years, I received good care in massage, chiropractic, acupuncture, and self-care. My lower neck remained stiffer and tighter, as did my lower back, especially with physical exertion or emotional life stress.

Dr. Sheena's work is truly gentle yet very specific and deeply felt. I had greater ease after the first session. Amazing to me! After several months of treatment, my neck regained its full motion without the stiffness. My whole back feels resilient and just happier.

After living with 37 years of tightness and ache, and considering this as "my normal," I am THRILLED with the "new me." I feel younger and am grateful. Yahoo!
I had chronic pain in the areas where the tendons were shredded and pulled apart, and the nerves were severed for so long, and so severely, that the pain absolutely limited my activities, career, and lifestyle choices.

Over time, I just couldn't move my body to get exercise, or even work. I put on weight, too. All of these things led to my body slowly deteriorating in other places, in other ways. I went for all sorts of medical treatments, and even chiropractic care for when my neck and back pain became excruciating. I was told I had degeneration in my neck and back spinal regions. I went for 12 years of treatment thinking that this was only as good as it could get, and my limitations increased and I had less and less energy.

I had numbness come on in both of my thighs at some point in years past, and numbness in my arms and hands. I had sharp pinching sensations in my upper back that would radiate to the front of my chest, and really irregular bowels. At a point not that long ago, I couldn't even clean a whole room in my small house in a day. If I'd wake up in the morning at 5 or 6, by 7:30am, the pain and numbness would be so severe I'd have to quit whatever I was doing.

I am amazed and happy to say that all of that has changed. Even my sinuses are clearer and my allergies are improved since I began seeing Dr. Sheena just a few months ago. I have energy I don't remember having for a very long time. I can clean my house, and prune trees, care for my chickens and dogs, and dig and plant in my garden! I have better range and freedom of movement all around.

Dr. Sheena was patient with me, as I just didn't think we'd get anywhere new for a while. Then I realized that all the processes that were going down hill for so long were actually going backwards! The day I noticed revitalizing sensations in my legs, and then that I had feeling again, was a game changer for me. Even the old nerve and and tendon wound doesn't hurt as much as it did before. I think that the nervous system is so amazing that chiropractic can do all this. I tell anyone who will listen what's happened, and even made sure my friend in Arizona went to see a chiropractor that practices similarly to Dr. Sheena.

Anyway, after a dozen years of treatments with medical doctors, and even with a chiropractor at another office, my condition has improved to such an extraordinary degree that I can't believe that the other chiropractor could dare call what they have been doing with me "maintenance" care. I had so much farther to come.

Thanks Kind & Gentle Chiropractic!
I am a 65 year old woman who was very active until age 54. At that time, I fell and hurt my hip. I didn't do anything about it until almost 3 months ago. The problem was just getting worse and worse, and I couldn't walk very far because the pain was so bad. I stopped working out or even going anywhere. I would get massages monthly or even weekly over the years, but they never gave any lasting results. The worst pain was when the weather would change, and it would rain. Then, the pain was so bad, I'd almost cry.

After seeing Dr. Sheena for Chiropractic care for just this short amount of time, I feel 100% better. I stand up straighter now and for the most part, the pain is gone. I'm working out again, and when it rains, I hardly ache like I did. I'm excited that the pain is mostly gone so shopping and walking for sometimes hours is no problem for me now. I also have energy I didn't have since, I think, before my fall.

It feels great to feel good! Dr. Sheena has been a blessing!
Migraines? I am a 24 year old and am 34 weeks pregnant. I am self-employed as a writer and editor. I've never tried chiropractic work before to address my health concerns prior to this experience.

I had migraines, upper back and neck pain and some mental fogginess before visiting Dr. Sheena. Also, beginning in my second trimester, I began having very bad lower back and hip pain primarily on my left side. I walked with a limp because of this. That pain is what brought me to seek professional help.

Since being accepted as a patient at Kind & Gentle Chiropractic, I no longer suffer from intense lower back and hip pain, and I can now walk normally, pain-free! My migraines and upper back and neck pain have also improved noticeably. The mental fog I had before has lifted considerably as well.

I was surprised that the adjustments are so non-invasive and painless. The little instrument that Dr. Sheena uses is simple, yet effective and actually feels nice. I am excited that the adjustments seem to help me feel better all around, and more grounded.
Unable to sleep because of pain? What about a Chiropractor? My name is Maria. I'm 50 years old, and I was born in the Philippines. I am married, and I now live and work in Fairfield, California.

For years and years, I have suffered with frequent headaches. I would have one to two headaches a week, and the headaches on average would last all day and all night. I also suffered with neck and back pain. With these problems, I have had a very hard time sleeping at night. I took lots of medications to help, but they didn't always work. Sometimes my migraines were so bad, I had to miss work, or leave work early!

After receiving the very personalized care that I did at Kind & Gentle Chiropractic, I now hardly ever have headaches. I feel a lot of improvement in my neck and back. I feel more relaxed, and I sleep better. I feel all this and I have not been a patient for very long at all. Plus, I have not taken any medications since I started the care in Dr. Sheena's office!

What surprises me most is how soon I noticed the improvement in my chronic pains after just a few sessions with Dr. Sheena. She is so gentle, too. I'm happy and I believe in her work!
While there are other issues that contribute to the U.S.'s terrible health, when we truly understand this problem of semantics, we can better understand why the United States "health care system" ranked dead last (again) in comparison with eleven other countries, despite "it" being the most expensive in the world.

Until this concept is addressed (perhaps only possible when huge numbers of people voice the truth so loud that our government no longer itself uses the terms equivalently, and also no longer allows "Medicine" the monopolized "right" to talk about itself as "Health care") and the "system" is actually called what it is ("Illness care", or better yet "the big U.S. mandatory, government-subsidized business network that answers just about every call for help with expensive tests that usually are not necessary, drugs, and/or surgeries, along with little to no patient education), we ALL MUST focus more than ever on personal responsibility, self-care, our own research, and possibly doing things we may have never done before.

YES, that means you may well have to pay for a service entirely out of your own pocket. It may involve you doing things your medical doctor never suggested to you, things your medical doctor told you "wouldn't help", or better yet (this is where it gets juicy, and controversial), maybe doing things your medical doctor explicitly told you NOT to do.

Consider the people who found yoga eliminated their back pain, but their MDs never told them to do yoga. Consider the people who found relief from allergies by doing a fast with an alternative practitioner, but the MD said "that won't work, don't bother." Consider the patients who suffered from debilitating migraines, and had also been told by their MDs that their x-rays or MRIs are "so bad" that these patients "should never see a chiropractor because a chiropractor would hurt them more"...but some of those same patients felt real health answers could lie somewhere else, tried chiropractic, are alive and well, and no longer have migraines?

Would these things happen if they relied on, and waited for a cue from, our "Health Care system"?

Own yourself. Live YOUR life, take chances, and strive for quality. That's the best health advice you could ever get, and it did NOT come from someone in the Medical field.

I'm an E6, originally from San Bernardino, but currently stationed here in Northern Cali. I've been in the Air Force for 17 years. I'm single, with no kids, and my hobbies include fitness training and making music. Someday, I hope to own my own business.

Before meeting Dr. Sheena and being under her care, I noticed for a long time that my upper body felt heavy, and that one side of my body felt much weaker than the other. I noticed the one-sidedness even as a teenager, and over the years, I felt like the other side was strained because it was like it had to do the work for both sides.

My role in the military requires that I do periodic fitness tests, and I have to achieve to certain standards during these qualifying tests. One involves running, and I have usually not looked forward to that part because when I finish running (giving it my all), I have horrible low back pain for sometime afterwards.

After being a patient now, I feel noticeably balanced, even when I am walking. I am stronger, and I have a better sense of well-being. My fitness test came up only after a few weeks of care in her office, and I hardly prepared this time at all. Even Dr. Sheena was amazed when I told her that I had no back pain after the run, and that I shaved 20 seconds off of my running time!

The effects from the positive care I have been receiving have made me more aware of myself and the importance of my health. I had heard about chiropractic care but I thought it was only to treat problems. I know now (and I mean I can actually feel it in my body), it promotes wellness and is also a preventative type of care/medicine.
The answer may surprise you.

Put simply, the answer is “it depends on your belief
system.” Think that you don’t have a belief system? Incorrect. Everyone
has a belief system.

A belief system, otherwise known as a “philosophy”, may be
obvious to the person, or rest quietly in the subconscious. It can be detailed and have lots of
parts, or it can be simple. In
most cases, there are at least a few bits of a person’s practical philosophy
that end up being paradoxical, and require that same person to reexamine
concepts they once were so sure were true, but just may not be. No matter how complex, intricate or
even shallow a person’s belief system, you can be positive of one thing: it guides every single choice that
person makes, and guides also his or her interpretation of all events and
situations in life.

Now, back to the question of “healing” or “curing” . . .
What does philosophy have to do with health care? Let me ask you this:
is the universe and world you live in defective and chaotic, or is it
perfect and ordered? If you
answered “defective and chaotic”, you’ll be seeking “a cure” constantly. If you answered “perfect and ordered”,
you will be looking forward to constant evolution.

Do you think a whole is merely the sum of its parts, or do
you think the whole is greater than the sum of the parts? Do you know enough about embryology,
endocrinology, physiology, neurology…to state what the difference is between a
living being and a corpse?

The answer to that question, you see, doesn’t lie in the
study of the fine details of the signaling molecules seen in the process of
somite differentiation, or the renin-angiotensin cascade pathway. The answer is simple, and is no less an
answer simply because “modern medicine” cannot bottle it, test it, or recreate
it. The answer is: vital force.

“Vital force”, “vital energy”, or “life force, “Innate
Intelligence”, “Prana”, or “Chi” is NOT a new concept. To the contrary, it is an ancient concept that reigned for most of human history, until
the age of microscopes. At that
point, men became so fixated on the tiny details they then forgot the grandness
of the living being, and the "big picture". For the most part, when Western scientists discovered germs,
it was decided in the doctorly community that the key to health was identifying
enemies and destroying them (today we can add in “cancer” and “symptoms” to the
medical field’s enemy list), instead of strengthening the fortress and the
members of the “society” within (the body, its systems, its cells, etc).

You either recognize that there is a vital energy in living
things, or you don’t see it.
Likely, you do honor it, but how much weight or meaning you give to that
vital energy will vary in proportions relative to other components of your
philosophy. May this tidbit of
writing be a call to reexamine how much weight or meaning you’d like to give
that vital force in your life from here on out. Additionally, if you do
not “see” a vital force residing in living things, my guess is that you lead a less-than -fulfilling life. This has nothing to do with Religion,
or a personal “God”, I’d like to add:
it is simply a natural truth that you can live with and use to your
benefit, or struggle without.

The whole reason I decided to write this article involves
the following quote from a colleague.
It struck me as better than anything I could have tried to come up with
to explain this fundamental health issue in our modern society.

He says there is a “healing model” philosophy, and a “curing
model” philosophy, and each represents a distinct world view:

“The curing model emerges from a
Newtonian perspective, which views everything in the world as separate and
distinct from everything else.
Here, disease is seen as an isolated event, which must be controlled or eliminated before it causes further damage. The presence or absence of the symptom is the indication of
whether someone has been cured.

The healing model comes from an
understanding of quantum physics and unified field theory, which views all of
creation as emerging from the same source. Here, everything is interconnected and affects everything
else. Healing is a process of
reintegrating body, mind and spirit.
The measure of whether someone is healing is ‘are you finding more out
about yourself?'”

So, YOU get to choose how you want your health care to play
out. YOU get to choose if you need
“cured”, or if you need to “heal”.
Principled chiropractic is founded on the healing model. If you want help on your healing
journey, give me a call. If you
want a cure…please call someone else.

I was coping with lower back pain for several years when a doctor told me that I have lumbar spondylosis. For the most part I would feel O.K., however my job requires a lot of lifting and standing for long periods of time and that would often aggravate my back. I'm also over-weight, and I have been told that is also stressful for my lumbar spondylosis.

Before I started care with Dr. Sheena, I had low back soreness, shoulder pain, right hip pain and a stiff neck. I also had a lot of puffiness in my face, and I felt so sluggish and tired. A friend kept telling me about Dr. Sheena, so I gave her chiropractic care a try. After being accepted as a patient, I feel great!

My low back soreness has decreased considerably and my neck and shoulder pain has gone away. I am amazed that my right hip pain is completely gone, too--I now know that my hip hurt because of imbalances in my spine. Dr. Sheena also specially-designed a cleansing fast just for me because she said my brain and metabolism were chemically and hormonally "confused", and that my organs needed to heal from eating things that had been damaging them. With the fast I was put on, I learned a lot about my body--more awareness about what food my body accepted and what food it rejected. My fatigue has gone away after the fast.

What surprised me the most is that I don't have the urge that I "have" to go to the chiropractor weekly because I don't have that urgent discomfort that had me counting the days 'til my next appointment, where I would only have temporary relief, like I had when I was with other chiropractors. I used to "have" to get adjustments weekly just to get relief...for over two years!! Not anymore!!!"
You see, she and her husband brought their 3-and-a-1/2 month old son into my office late yesterday afternoon. They told me how he had been suffering with acid reflux most of his short life, throwing up after every meal, snoring every night loudly and<span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #333333; font-family: "lucida grande" , "tahoma" , "verdana" , "arial" , sans-serif; font-size: 13px; line-height: 18px;"> <span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #333333; font-family: "lucida grande" , "tahoma" , "verdana" , "arial" , sans-serif; font-size: 13px; line-height: 18px;">now he had an ear infection they were treating with antibiotics. They also told me that after 3 other kids, they noticed that he was exceptionally stiff in his movements, that he seemed to tilt his head a certain way all the time, that he has been generally miserable since he entered the world. "He hates to be held," they said sadly.

I listened, then moved on to the chiropractic exam. I found that the first neck bone in the baby's spine was misaligned and putting pressure on his nervous system. I told the parents what I had found, and asked if I could make a simple, gentle adjustment so that his brain and body communication could be more balanced. Of course, they said yes. Immediately after just the tiniest adjustment, the baby's eyes lit-up and he looked into my face with the biggest grin and giggles, then went on to kick his arms and legs and "talk" to us all, very animated, very alive and very happy. "He is definitely moving more, and 'talking' more than ever right now!" the parents told me after that one chiropractic adjustment.

Mom told me this morning, "he let me carry him in our body wrap carrier for the first time since he was born, all of last evening as we shopped, and he slept the whole time. Also, he didn't snore last night."

You see, chiropractic isn't just for old working people with arthritis. Yes, it can help them, but chiropractic is for anyone with a brain and a spine, because chiropractic is about unlocking the body's natural vitality. It's about every person, every child, being at their best.

If you want to be at your best, or you want your child to be at his or her best, give me a call. An appointment is just a call away.
<span style="color: #222222; font-family: "arialmt"; font-size: 13.0pt;">Josh is hands down the best
massage therapist I have ever had work on me. He came to my home with his
table and I had a 2 hour massage. He found places and knots that I
had struggled getting therapist to understand or acknowledge. He
previously worked at a Chiropractic office before going into massage and he
told me I really needed to be seen by a chiropractor due to his findings and my
symptoms. He gave me great tips on how to deal with some of the pain and
the spasm, and I began my search for a local Chiropractor.

<span style="color: #222222; font-family: "arialmt"; font-size: 13.0pt;">Having had been to a Chiropractor
before, and not really looking forward to having someone hold my head, tell me
to relax, and then SNAP (paralyzed for the rest of my life or dead!!--ok that is
a little extreme, but it was what I was thinking--); I wanted to research this
very closely before continuing. Then, I came across Dr. Sheena Boyd, BA,
DC in Vacaville, CA and her website www.kindgentlechiropractic.com. Once
I read “Feel the results, not the adjustments”, I had made my decision.
She saw me the next day and assessed my situation, evaluated my spine
as well as my lifestyle and medical history and told me she would put together
a plan for me and let me know if she could help me or not. That was on a
Thursday, and I was to return the next day to discuss my treatment plan if she
could help. I left in pain, but hopeful and anxious to see her again.

<span style="color: #222222; font-family: "arialmt"; font-size: 13.0pt;"> The next day changed my life
possibly forever. When Dr. Sheena saw me on Friday, I came in holding
my arm in an outward rotated position to try to relieve the spasm
and numbness, my neck hurt to try to lay flat, and I could barely get
comfortable. After she assessed the situation she did the adjustments
on my neck, back and spine without snapping! I stood up from the table,
and reached for <span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #222222; font-family: "arialmt"; font-size: 17px;">my arm in anticipation of the pain; the pain was gone.
The rush of emotion was overwhelming and I cried; right there in her
office a 41 year old man cried. I had felt so helpless and desperate and
now hopeful and encouraged. I had found the treatment for me.

<span style="color: #222222; font-family: "arialmt"; font-size: 13.0pt;"> I know that the medical
field frowns down on Chiropractic care, and I know the struggles this field has
had to fight (check out the documentary “Doctored”). I realize that
it may not be for everyone, but I returned back to work 2 weeks later.
I am sleeping, I am the happiest I have ever been, and I feel a
new excitement for life that I have not had in a very long time.<span style="color: #222222; font-family: "arialmt"; font-size: 13.0pt;"> All of
this, without medication!! <span style="color: #222222; font-family: "arialmt"; font-size: 13.0pt;"> I know that there is still much
more work to be done, and I'm not to expecting to be normal overnight;
but continued work with Dr. Sheena, Joshua, and letting my body
naturally heal itself is the path I have chosen for me.

<span style="color: #222222; font-family: "arialmt"; font-size: 13.0pt;"> And by the way, Dr Sheena uses an
Activator for my adjustments and I no longer fear the“snap, crackle, pop” of my
neck.

A little about myself:

I am a mostly retired lady who loves wildlife, nature, travel and stress-free living.

How I felt before her chiropractic care:

One day a year and a half ago, I got up off my sofa to go to the kitchen (a seemingly harmless activity). I immediately felt numbness and tingling in my left extremities. Over the course of the next few days it only got worse, including upper back, neck and left shoulder pain. My neck muscles felt strained to their limits and in danger of letting my head roll off. I saw an M.D. who said I probably had a pinched nerve in the cervical spine and, beyond that, wasn’t very helpful. For months I tried acupuncture, massage, heat, a contour pillow and lots of ibuprofen. Nothing helped very much or for very long. I never considered chiropractic care before because I feared someone “cracking” my spine and sending me into paralysis. Then I met Dr. Sheena and my thinking and course of treatment changed.

In addition to frequent adjustments to correct subluxation, Dr. Sheena prescribed many changes to my lifestyle to help my body heal. I tried most of her recommendations, but to be honest, I couldn’t maintain most of them. Even so, I saw gradual improvement in my condition over the next few months, but it seemed for every two steps forward, there was a step backward. I kept working hard at yoga and pilates and Dr. Sheena never stopped working hard to find ways to help me. We finally found additional underlying spinal issues. Dr. Sheena refined her treatment plan and, for the past two months, I have been virtually pain-free, with no regressions.

What surprised and/or excited me the most was:

Dr. Sheena’s care has not been a “quick fix” for me. It has taken work and patience (mostly her work and patience) and the results have exceeded any expectations I could have dreamed of. I anticipated a life of increasingly chronic pain, loss of interest in and ability to do the things I enjoy doing and eventually, painkillers that would incapacitate me. Instead, I feel better than I have felt in 15 years!

I work as a correctional officer and have done so for the past 9 years.

I was diagnosed with MS in 1995 and needless to say that was traumatic for my family as well as myself. Fear of the unknown....

I worked with a neurologist and was given medication for relapsing MS. For one reason or another I didn't like how I felt on the medication prescribed, and I decided--my personal choice--to move towards more of a healthy lifestyle and positive attitude. My doctor decided to allow this as long as I go in for my regular check-ups. That was in 2005. I'm happy to report that I am still going strong. :)

Why I sought out chiropractic care was because I had a lot of lower back pain and my right side felt like it "needed to be cracked." I refuse to give into the MS. :) I thought, "I'll try this, it beats meds."

From the first visit with Dr. Sheena, I was sold. Her approach is getting to the "root" of why things are hurting, not just patching things up. Such a breath of fresh air!

After my treatments with Dr. Sheena--which, I am amazed, don't really even use "back cracking" at all!--along with her nutritional and supplemental advice, I feel great. No more lower back pain and my right side is feeling excellent.

I know I have someways to go to be labeled with "excellent" health, but I truly believe I have found the secret.

I would and do recommend Dr. Sheena, or if not her, chiropractic care to anyone that wants something more than just a "band-aid" over the symptoms and wants to get to the root of the issue.

:)
She scheduled an appointment for this afternoon, and stated that she was referred to me by another local specialist. She went on to explain that her son had an unresolving, deep ear infection, and that this child has had seriously health issues since he was in the womb. One of those issues included his "Sensory Processing Disorder," which involved a spectrum of complications that often affected the whole family.

I hung up the phone and thought, "This reminds me of someone who is coming in today." About an hour later, without getting into details besides her first name, I explained to a patient of mine that another woman is coming in with her son today for the first time. I stated that this little boy shares some of the diagnoses that her little boy was labeled with. This is the letter she wrote for the woman scheduled later that day (I changed the names, and left out the actual phone number, for privacy's sake):

Hi Lorraine,

My name is Wendy. I have an almost 10 year old son Jonathan. He is a patient of Dr. Sheena's. Jonathan had oxygen deprivation while in utero which caused bilateral brain damage, mild cerebral palsy, sensory processing disorders, along with a multitude of other diagnoses.

I am a patient of Dr. Sheena's also and I had discussed Jonathan with her many times before I brought him in for her to assess. After discussing her findings with me I decided to bring Jonathan in for treatment.

Dr. Sheena was very honest with me about expectations for Jonathan. I greatly appreciated that as I have had others give us false hope. She stated that she did not know if her treatment would help Jonathan's thought processes (developmental delay) or not but that she did know that the curvatures in his spine would later cause discomfort and pain and that she could definitely help with that!

After only 6 visits we noticed that Jonathan was completing his homework faster and his attention span and memory improved. Physically Jonathan grew 1/2'' in just over a month, and gained 5 pounds (we're lucky if he gained 5 pounds a year normally!)

As a special needs mom I have tried many things with Jonathan. Some have worked and some have not. But, if I hadn't tried everything I would not have felt I was caring for my son the best I could. Knowing what I know now seeing Dr. Sheena is a good choice for Jonathan's ongoing therapy. Anything, regardless of cost that helps him is worth the time and the money.

I wish you and your child the best!

Sincerely,
Wendy Doe
